My name is Aarti, and I’m a 2nd-year in the Environmental Engineering department. I’m a proud member of our union, GSWOC-UAW Local 872, and I’m even more proud to announce that I am part of the member majority! When USC received the first-ever membership list on April 10th, they saw an unmistakable sign of our collective power as grad workers: a majority of RAs, TAs, ALs, and STEM fellows have already signed up as dues-paying members.

This is a major accomplishment: in just a few short months, nearly 1500 grad workers across USC have opted to become dues-paying members, demonstrating that we are committed to and invested in making life better here at USC through our union. In addition, nearly 200 grad workers on external fellowships or social sciences/humanities fellowships elected to sign up to pay solidarity dues, despite not currently working in a represented job title.

It’s never too late to join the majority! Anyone can sign up for membership at any time. Join the majority and sign up as a member now, and you’ll officially be a member starting in May.

On this topic, join your coworkers at the next campuswide Know Your Rights training, coming up Tuesday, April 23rd at 4pm. It’s so important to know our rights so that we can protect ourselves and our coworkers when the contract is violated. RSVP here for the location and link, and bring a few coworkers with you!

Additionally, the next Monthly Membership Meeting will be held over Zoom and in-person on Wednesday, April 24th at 5:30pm. RSVP here for the location and Zoom link, agenda viewable at this link.

In solidarity,
Aarti
